Well guys,I guess it's that time of year to do some improvements to our toys ;D.I always wanted rear steer, from the first time I seen it in the vids.So I have been gathering parts over the last year. This is not going to be some high dollar bling bling build,it's more fun to use what you can scrounge up.I did spend some money on the parts that need to be strong and reliable. I started out buy using a front Toyota housing and cutting the knuckle balls off of it ,and the tubes.I what the diff. to be centered,or in the stock location of a toy. rear axle housing.I bought 2 long side 30 spline longfield super axles, going to try shorten and respline them. And I got a set of drive flanges to take the place of the hubs. So this week I can final get started on the axle housing.Got the bottom cut out of the housing and welded a piece of 1/4" plate in its place, and welded a piece of 1/4" flat bar up around the rear of the housing to protect the ring gear.Think that I gained almost an 1" of ground clearance by doing this.Ring gear has about 1/8" clearance from the plate. And I final got my orbital valve with the power beyond last weekend(only took 2 months)Here's a few pics. orbital valve bottom of the housing,Fawkin N.S. weather >:(everything rust almost as fast as you can build it. rear inside side view Anyhow I'll keep posting pics as I get things done. rue

Was up to the shop last night and tried to respline my axles, with no luck .Going to need something better for a cutter or buy a short side axle and have the diff of to the pass. side. I'm not sure where the biggest advantage would be?Diff of to the side or centered, what do you guys think? rue

i'd just stick the 3rd off to the passenger side lined up with hte front... as for running th edshaft on an angle you could marry a sj case to the tracker and have the t-case outputs both on the passenger side... but then you loose your front wheel drive option.. but you get 2.72 low insted of the 300's 2.62... or just run your dshaft on an angle

then use a sj tcase.... then the shafts are inline with the t-case... but you would loose your front wheel drive option... the only weak part of the sj case is the drvorced mounting of them, if you were to marry it to the tracker case you would get rid of that problem... and an fyi the tracker case output and the sj input are the same dia. and spline count.. all you need is a sleve to join them together.... most ppl use the tracker rear dshaft yoke...

Well made some progress on the weekend.Made a holder to hold the inserts that got from a friend.Got my axles shorten and resplined. The holder with the insert in it.Sorry about the pic ,still trying to figure out the camera. The axles cut and resplined.Stock axle on the bottom. close up of the splines. And I picked up this little control valve into PA.Should be able to mount it in between the sets sideways.Push it right to go right and left to go left. rue

I was just wondering if you were using a fly cutter? Was using a little carbide chamfer tool that was fluted out to the point.I would get about 11/2 splines cut and the end would break off.It would cut a nice spline,to bad it wouldn't stay in one piece. rue

Cool stuff Rue. Whats your plan for attaching the axle tubes and getting everything lined up? Paul I have some rear 60 tubes on the way from a friend, they have the same OD as the toy frt tubes but a thicker wall thickness.Plan to turn the out side down so that it will press into the toy center section, and then run a truss up each side. Then should be able to bore the wends and press the knuckle balls into place. To get everything straight,we have a jig at work for that. It's just a couple of alum. pucks that go in place of the carrier bearings with a 1" hole through the center that you can shove a 1" bar through. rue
