So how ya makin out with your build Rue? Noticed on throttlehappy you were rebuilding your engine and going with propane. Now you have me curious to what kind of power your going to be makin with that 4.3 Charles.

The chassis part of the build is going pretty slow right at the moment.Finding it hard to go back out these cold days.
As for the motor,it's mostly together now just waiting for some better push rods.Should have them in a couple of weeks. Power wise,I'm looking to make around 260 + hp (I hope).
Yes I'm going to run propane on this motor. It should work like efi, but the simplicty of a crab.My whole fuel system won't have any wires.I'm liking that ;D As for power, gas vs propane.I've read that you will lose between 4% to 10% with propane depending on the motor.I think on a stock gas motor you might see up to 10% loss in hp,Because the propane has less BTU's than gas.So with the motor that I built,I uped the compression to 10.5 to 1 and did a bunch of head work.
Should be ready for the dyno in 2 or 3 weeks.Going to break the motor in on gas than try the propane and compare the two.Should be interesting.

260+ hp....that will be very nice in a light weight buggy. Kinda cool that your going with propane. Something different. I'm anxious to hear the results of the dyno. Keep us updated!! Charles.

i heard propane burns alot cleaner and makes your motor last longer because there is no sludge buildup. and they did it on trucks a few weekends ago, and they lost no power when they swithed thier ford from gas to propane. it would be interesting to try.

What camshaft are you using Rue ? GM has a L79 version for the 4.3 that's supposed to give 230 hp and 315 ft-lb , they were the cheapest of all the ones I priced too .

I bought a cam through Mahle/clevlite.It has.478 int lift and .487 ex lift. The Duration is 210*/214* at 50.But since I'm not going EFI I'm going to put a 1.6 ratio rocker arm on it.That rock should get the lift up around .525.I ported the heads, picked them up another 40 cfm.Put flat top pistons out of a SBC in it and upped the compression up to 10.5 to 1.I'm in the works of building a set of headers for it now.
Hopefully it'll have some getty up!!! ;D

Started building my headers today.I made a pair of collectors and some flanges last weekend. Bought some bends 3 hrs later have a pretty good start on Two tubes 5 more hrs and I have the passager side tubes where I want them. Looks like a big Knot....LOL. I'll go out here after a bit and get started on the drivers side.Think that I'm going to have to order 3 more U bends. .

I'd say it'd have some getty up , it should give ya a pretty good power to weight ratio . Looks like those headers are a going to be a permanent part of your buggy .

I made the headers with a slip on colector. Will be able to take them apart to get them out of the buggy.
