Had a little free time so I thought that I might start bending some pipe.Still haven't figured out exactly what I want it to look like, but it'll have a tracker grill and hood.Got tried of having no room for tools or a cooler in the old buggy,so made this a little wider in the cab and a bit longer in the front and rear.Might stick the rad back up front if I can keep the hood nice and low like the old buggy.Anyhow here are a few pics so far. Wasn't sure what to do with the front yet so I started at the back Comparing to the old Made the lower part of thechassis 5" narrower and the side are3" wider than the old Stuck a windsheild bar in but not to sure if I like just one, or I need to put two in. Any how time too try and figure out what I want to do with the front Rue

Looks good Rue. Did you do those mods to the kinker? The bends look very nice. Using 1-1/4" pipe? What is your total width at the cowl?

Paul Yes did the mods to the PA bender, and it makes a pretty good bend now.For people that don't know what we are talking about you can ck it out here www.toyotacrawlers.com/forum/index.php?topic=12442.0Yes using 1 1/4 pipe, should be lots strong enough for this little rig.Hoping to be in the 2600 lbs range.the chassis is 50" wide at the cowl. It's 3" wider than the old chassis, hoping it'll give me a little more elbow room with the side bars being higher. 1-1/4" is my choice for my eventual buggy too. Plenty strong, you guys flopping all the time has me more than convinced of that. Was curious of the width of yours, I always though it was nice and compact. The engine I'd like to use for mine is like 42" wide, so its good to know its won't make the buggy too fat!

Got a little more done.Picked up a tracker hood and grill. Then spent 4 hrs cutting the hood up and piecing it back together.Funny how things don't fit back together when a feller cuts 20" out of the middle ;D.Once I got the hood back in one piece I figure what to do with the front tube work.Any how here are a few pics. Bare chassis so far with the hood and grill set in place Had a change of plans with the motor, trans and the travercase.Picked up this piece of shit for $50.00 Some prize eh!!!!! ;D But look what's under the hood(hope it fits) should have a little more power now!! Hey Kenzie sorry for taking so long to answer your questions.I'm going to keep the fuel injection.Pretty much have to have it for the wheelin that I do. As for welding the die,I took a propane torch and warmed up the die before I welded it with the mig.Than tried not to let it cool off to quick. Rue

Well been picking away at the buggy. It's starting to look like something now.Got the motor in it's final place now.Had to raise it up 1" from where I had it the first time. The trans. pan was getting to low.Left the motor back far enough that I might be able to fit a couple more cylinder's in there someday ;D. Got to try and do something with this mess they have on the front of the motor.Would like to keep the serpentine belt with the old style mounts Motor mount Modified the back corners of the hood pieces to fit the cage.Still debating on putting the tracker skins on it.The front fenders could be made to fit the chassis with not that much work. Got the bottom of the chassis bent up and welded in place Mounted the rad yesterday.Think that I'll put some cross braces in the chassis today. Rue

Hey Rue , look into a '88 caprice for your belt system . I'm quite sure that's what I got mine off of , it runs the crank , waterpump and alt. off of a serpentine belt with all the old style brackets and the power steering off a V belt . Just make sure they are a matched set , I loaned my friend my 350 for his firebird running the same system but with his pulleys and he couldn't get the belt to stop squeling , had different diameters and the two belts were fighting each other . You'd have to change your waterpump too if you go to that belt system .
