On all fours! Re-assembled the suspension, built the axle and knuckles, hooked up the steering linkage and lengthened the steering rod. Ended up with 20 3/4" under the frame. Flexed out as much as the floor jack would allow. Left to do: bump stops, limit straps, drive shaft, exhaust, and add some leaves to the back. I think we might notch the frame over the draglink on the passenger side, so it'll flex the same on both sides. Paul

Nice build! Looks like you should trim the front fenders some more so the tires don't top out on the edges.

On the road! Late night drive to the range. Just went far enough to find a rock. Still need to finish the driveshaft and do the bump stops and limit straps, but at least it's mobile. Paul

It seemed really good last night, had it through town and up to 90 on the highway. No death wobble or other funny business. John dove it to work today so we'll see what he says when he gets back.

I made it to work and back (total 48Ks highway) and had no issues, seems to do fine on the off ramps as well...
We'll put it thru a better off-road test once we get the driveshaft, bump stops and limit straps done.

Had the truck out for a little more tame test run on Sunday. Climbs great, I was shooting for ~60% anti-dive and I think it's close. Really hunkers down and digs when climbing on the gas. VIDEOThe trail we were on is mainly just woods, but there is one dry river bed to play on the rocks. VIDEOThe trail repair on the upper link from last weekend held fine. Too bad, because he could have probably finished the trail instead of turning around. The crossmember lives! Rear frame xmember is taking a beating. Transfer xmember only taken a few hits. Protects the CV nicely tho. Upper link, exhaust and driveshaft are in tight quarters, but getting along. Looks like the shaved diff is sliding over the rocks well. Panhard self clearanced the oil pan some. Evidence of the tie rod kissing the frame. Now that there's a good wear mark showing were it hits, we'll make a contact pad on the link. Should space it up enough to get the tie rod out of the frame too. Q78s are breaking in nicely. The lugs on these are really soft. A big local annual run, the Go Anywhere Challenge, is happening 22/23 of Aug. Need to come up with a permanent solution for the upper link mount before then, and we also got a big chunk of UHMW plastic for a belly skid. Paul

Stock Tcase gears, 4:33 diff gears. This is a budget build, a DD & some fun on the weekends.
Cost of Nissan tcase gears = $1000.00-1300.00, diff gears for the nissan rear = $500.00 or more? Toyota diff ?
As you can see they are not cheap....So i'll have to deal with it for i don't have $1000s to put into this truck. To tell you the truth i don't find it to bad.....I'm on the clutch a lot in the rocks making the engine roar more than normal.

yea, a few times in the video its sounded like the engine was revved when the clutch was engaged . I hear ya on the budget , only room left on my budget is for zip-cuts and coffees . I'd like to get either tcase gears or else a crawl box and some birfields but i may have to wait a while for them . my truck was geared on the high side with 33's , the 38.5's i think are gonna be a bit much for my current setup .

So,did you get the top link mount redesigned?
Looks like the truck works very good for something that still can drive on the road.Didn't get to see much of you on the curse.I was to far back in the pack.

Hey Rue, We have not done the upper link mount yet, we have plans to fix that tomorrow. Wheeled it with the trail-fix from the Curse...LOL I think with that fix i could have finished the curse run. I also picked up a sheet of UHMW to make a skid to protect those xmembers This winter i plan on getting a set of longfields and I'm now looking for a set of Nissan & toyota 4:88 Diff gears. As for the test run at the Curse, the truck works well even did the crack 1st time with no problems...and that was with the broke upper link mount! ...LOL the suspension really shines and works well, Paul did a great job. We did Ellwerhouse on the weekend and she really climbs well and it'll plow it's way thru some deep mud/water holes also. Yep i'm on the clutch a lot when in the rocks, but who isn't with the same gearing as my truck? Anyway, like i said it's a DD/ weekend toy.....See you all at the GAC.....
