just wondering what people over here have to say about longfields and the trail gear dirty 30's. I called trail gear to confirm that you don't have buy hub gears (65$US each) to get the warranty. I haven't called the longfield people yet to confirm, but from what I hear you have to buy their hub gears to keep the warranty. The cost of hub gears combined with the more expensive axel adds up pretty fast but the warranties are very similar at the end. I have also read some of a thread on pirate 4x4 and found them to lean towards the longs but that would be expected with a tried and true product. The other comment that caught my attention was peoples concern about the absence of 300M material in the construction of the bearings, trail gear lists the material they use as being of the AISI 52100 standard (?). I want to upgrade my front axel and keep the the cost down at the same time but not if it means using a substantially weaker part.

I was wondering the same thing myself , a bit cheaper and still lifetime warranty . Trail Gear has a canadian outlet through NSOR too incase you weren't aware , save the border bullshit . They went good on the pitman arm issues I had with my crossover steering too . So what was the verdict on the hub gears from trail gear for the warranty ?

no need for hub gears with dirty 30s but after doing a little research I think they are a smart upgrade but it is nice to not have to do it all in one shot. I have called NSOR(trail gear distributor) a couple times with various questions lately and they have been great every time, that may not really have any relevance to warranty service but it is a good start.

tried to watch the test vid but my computer won't play it for some reason. Never did end up calling NSOR about warranty service but I did look up the metalurgy (I know that spelling is wrong). I don't know a whole lot about it but I did notice that the dirty thirty material had more chromium and carbon which I believe to be a good thing. there was a lot of info out there but I couldn't interpret it all. another thing I think I found out is that there appears to be a wider range of 300m material than the AISI 52100. I would appreciate anyone who knows something about metals commenting on this. Other than that unless there is a group buy I will probably go with dirty thirtys. I would rather longfields because they are proven but a couple hundred dollars is alot of gas that I could use wheelin instead.
