Finally got some time to start on the body. Drivers side of the cab is in pretty bad shape. Rocker, sill, mount , cab corner, floor all toast lol. Here's a couple pics of my start. I'll post more as I go. Built a new cab mount box out of 1/4 plate. The plate on the floor is also 1/4. Came down off the door post and up the fire wall with 1/8. Made up a new rocker sill with 16 gage metal. Wanted to make it good and strong. Floor braces were good enough too leave. A new rocker and cab corner and the drivers side will be good as new. Thankfully the pass side is OK other than the cab corner. Charles.

Going to try to get the cab corner done tonight lol. Don't have much time to spend in the garage these days so progress is slow. Did I mention I HATE BODY WORK!!! Charles.

Thats kinda funny. I've been thinking about using some sort of bed liner on my floor too. I started a thread in the help section wondering what product is good and what to stay away from. Still undecided whether to go that way or just dump some tremclad on it.
I bought some of that rust remover paint too, but haven't used it yet. I've been using that zinc paint so far. Its conductive so you can weld right on it and its not supposed to burn when you weld. I've been using it under all my seams and on the back side of the new panels. They say its good stuff, supposed to condition the metal and inhibit rust. At 15 bucks a rattle can, I hope it is.
EDIT: if you look at the 4th pic from the top, you can see the paint is still on there right up tight to the bead of weld. It didn't burn off an inch on both sides of the weld like regular paint would.

tremclad works too! i used it once to paint a whole truck lol ;D thats one thing i didn't do. The the seams where the 2 panels meet up arent protected. i hope that doesn't came back to bite me. the rino lining looks pretty good. and certinaly hides any imperfections.

tremclad works too! i used it once to paint a whole truck lol ;D ... been there lmao. It was a Honda prelude lol. A lot of reducer and put it through the gun. Looked pretty good too and only used a quart of paint lol. Lucky to get a year out of the shine tho ;D the rino lining looks pretty good. and certinaly hides any imperfections. I love the idea of it, seems like it would make the floor more durable. I'd like to hear from some people with it on their floor to see how well it stayed. Charles.

Well... decided to go with the trustee tremclad on the floor. Put it on in 2 heavy brush coats. Managed to get the cab corner welded in and drivers door fired on. Took the pass fender off too.... the 2 inner and outer fenders from the truck I scrapped were new so I'm layin the tremclad to them and plan to use them. Couple pics... nothin special. Passenger door and cab side looks pretty good. Think I'll leave well enough alone there. The truck's going to be in pretty good shape from the cab up when all said and done. The box on the other hand is a different story. I'll use what I have for now, but will be on the look-out for another one.

Got a little more done yesterday. It was so nice and sunny I pulled the new fenders and inners out in the yard for some paint. Got the windshield cut out too and a look at the next mess. Firewall behind the heater box is pretty ugly. Hopefully I'll get some welding done on that today. Its hard to believe how good the passenger side rocker, floor and cab mount still are compared to how bad the driver side was. Passenger side is all original and not a pin hole! Going to hit the floor with the wire wheel and dump some tremclad in there. One thing about the floor, its no big deal to pull the mat back for a fresh coat every spring. Charles.

maybe i was wrong charles it might be a show truck by the shine on the fenders Don't worry, that shine won't be there for long ;D Spent a little time on it again today. Passenger side fire wall was way worse than I thought! Had to put a heater core in it anyway, so I took the whole heater box out and patched it up good. Man I didn't know what I was getting into when I decided to fix that cab. Too late to turn back now! Did I mention I HATE BODY WORK!!! Charles.
